Carp are incredibly talented at getting rid of fishermen’s hooks. Often this will be without any knowledge of a bite taking place. A hook which is not sharp enough to penetrate deeply enough gives the fish an easy opportunity to wriggle free. Using a hook sharpener before every cast keeps the hook sharp enough for consistent success.
