Quick Pike Tip

Pike are predatory fish that holds a healthy appetite, both for chowing down and battling tough. Pike can reach formidable weights, but even those relatively small in size are capable of torrid line peels and acrobatic jumps.
Try to choose a rod with a lot of backbone throughout the bottom half, but with some limberness towards the top. This will ensure better casting capabilities, but with the toughness to back up a hard-fighting fish.

Quick Carp Rig Tip

Often beginners start by buying the cheapest hooks they can, or even buying hooks which look big and heavy so they can use a large bait. Whatever hook you decide to use must be needle sharp. Carp are incredibly talented at getting rid of fishermen’s hooks. Often this will be without any knowledge of a bite taking place. A hook which is not sharp enough to penetrate deeply enough gives the fish an easy opportunity to wriggle free. Using a hook sharpener before every cast keeps the hook sharp enough for consistent success.
